Three Days with Pioneering Diabetes Physician Richard K. Bernstein
Dr. Richard K. Bernstein, MD, is a world-renowned advocate for diabetes patients and the author of several books on the subject, including his bestselling The Diabetes Solution. After developing type 1 diabetes at age 12, Dr. Bernstein spent the next 20 years following the standard dietary recommendation for high-carb meals, which he found—and later proved—to be a roller coaster for blood sugars with serious consequences.
Exercising with Diabetes
Dr. Ryan Attar has lived with type 1 diabetes since 1980 when he was 27 years old and serving overseas as a captain in the U.S. Army. Discharged, immediately following his diagnosis, Dr. Attar spent the next several years training to become a naturopathic doctor and nutritionist, opening his Connecticut office in 2019. Dr. Ryan Attar was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a decade ago while serving as a captain in the U.S. Army. After his diagnosis, he received a medical discharge. medically discharged. Understanding Food Sensitivities
In recent years, food sensitivities and intolerances have become more common. However, if you bring up the topic with your doctor they may, at best, test you for food “allergies.” If you have food sensitivities, allergy testing is unlikely to benefit you, and your symptoms won’t be resolved.
Childhood Diabetes
Mistakenly called juvenile diabetes and, for years, believed to occur primarily in youth, we now know that Type 1 diabetes can start at any age. However, it’s very important that children who do have T1 diabetes manage their blood sugars and A1c properly. Unregulated, high blood sugars and hyperglycemia have dangerous effects on a child's development and health. Multiple studies show that children with T1 diabetes whose blood sugar is poorly controlled experience decreased growth.
